Increasingly well, actually. Our population is no longer increasing at an exponential rate. The rate of increase has slowed considerably. In the 1970s, the doubling time was closer to 20 years. Now it probably won't happen until we have colonies in space and on other planets.

Thanks for playing! Don't let the door hit you in the ass...

Planet wide and with the human population reaching 7 billion, how is family planning working out?

Not well.

For one, people are irresponsible. For another, society mindlessly fosters baby production. Which is why we should be pushing forbearance, the least not opposing it, at the very, very least not presenting obstacles to the avoidance of unwanted babies. It's not like we don't have the tools.

I look at a woman from Central America who is seeking asylum to protect her children from horrible conditions and I have two reactions. One is to sympathize with her kids. The other is to wonder what the %$^#! she is doing producing children in a place where she must know upfront what they will face. There are wild animals who have the instincts to suspend breeding when conditions are poor.

The best solution to any problem is to avoid it.
