Social security, medicare, unemployment and unions have saved hundreds of millions of people from pain and suffering and all of those programs were put forth by democrats and opposed by Republicans. "What political party started the welfare system? Although President Franklin D. Roosevelt focused mainly on creating jobs for the masses of unemployed workers, he also backed the idea of federal aid for poor children and other dependent persons. By 1935, a national welfare system had been established for the first time in American history." Virtually all of the modern social programs to help the people like social security and medicare or rules and regulations to protect the people have been put forth by the dems.Including public financing of campaigns which would take the power out of lobbyists buying legislators. Democrats have been trying to get public financing of campaigns for 50 years and the pubs always block it; because Republicans only mission is to steal money from the country and the poor and middle class and give it to the rich. And the poor are the unwitting accomplices of the Republicans because the pubs have framed their party as the party against liberals, whom many poor do not understand and feel threatened by. But that is a ruse.The perfect example is Lee Atwater's Southern strategy that we all know about. There was no high minded philosophy there. It was a simple lets go get the racists in the south by telling them we support their racism. And people wonder why African Americans vote 95% of the time for Democrats!
