Frankly, I don't think religion should be a factor. But there seems some sort of selection mechanism. In general, if a Latino is going to be selected, odds are high that the nominee is going to be Catholic. But the others?

Note that all of the other Catholic appointees were done by Republican presidents. The only exception to Republican appointees by Republican presidents is Gorsuch, and he was raised Catholic. It looks like they were using their stance on abortion rights as a litmus test. And a litmus test has no place in the selection of judges.
