Gold: China Warns U.S. on Eve Tariffs

It’s a calm day in the markets on the eve of a US$34-billion tariff tit-for-tat between the world’s two largest economies. Major European indices are trading modestly higher and futures are pointing to a higher open on Wall Street. The Trump administration’s tariffs are set to take effect tomorrow, and Beijing has said it will be ready to match that move immediately. “The U.S. is firing shots to the world, including to itself,” Commerce Ministry Spokesperson Gao Feng is quoted by the WSJ as saying. We’ll take a closer look today at the products being targeted by both countries and assess the potential spillover effect for Canada.
