You are right, I don't remember that discussion, either. I will note that many of the countries in that region feel the same way about being occupied. China did that, off and on, for millenia. And the the Europeans occupied this country or that for a few hundred years. Finally, there were the Japanese. Who made up for their late arrival with sheer brutality.

I dunno if you remember, but back in the 1970s and early 1980s(not sure about the latter) there were a lot of protests. in South Korea. South Korea was ruled by a famously corrupt dictator by the name of Park. Now Park is a common family name in Korea, but this guy stood out. SK was rapidly industrializing at the time and by the mid to late 1970s, the people were affluent enough to actually protest. A common demand at the time was for the North and South to reunite under the control of the North.

People should be really, really careful for what they wish for. By then, South Korea was much better off than the North. Park was bad news, but didn't hold a candle to the original Kim.

LOL! I was reading some translations of South Korean political blogs. They were arguing over how re-unification would take place, who would pay for it (maybe the US?), how many jobs it would cost S. Korea ( youth unemployment 9.9%), who would provide the investment, etc.

Nowhere did the question arise about the status of Kim Jong Un or their own president! Or how the political systems would merge. They seemed to just assume it would happen, somehow.
