The 60's was as important as the age of enlightenment, for indeed it was an age of enlightenment. It was a time of a major overhaul of our primitive norms and mores e.g. racism, sexism, homophobia, and freedom from primitive cultural tribalism like who one should marry and a time of enhanced self actualization.

It was the first major existential movement in the history of person kind.

But the primitive norms and mores were still a glue that held society together albeit primitively-lol.

So everyone was freed---to be who they were including wearing bells on their toes and rings in their nose.

Those who were able to supplant the old norms and mores with modern thought did better than ever, but those who failed to do that, now having thrown away the old ideology and replacing it with nothing, left them adrift and that has hurt them and our society.

The Nordic countries are examples of the former and Republicans an example of the latter-lol.
