That statement clearly implies that "Gold" is not the refuge against contrary economic conditions, and that Gold has been de-linked from its previous "monetary" value. Stated simply, gold is a mere "commodity", bought in good times, sold in bad.

If that is reality, it is not the picture most of us like.
