Consumer saving can be a very big problem. We don't want people to save too much or the economy goes into deflation. Note the lost decade(s) Japan has had to endure. We don't know how to fix deflation yet.

Absolutely!! The consumer spending as a measure of anything is ridiculous. More and more and more until your garage is full and you must park your three cars in the street and then when you go buy more something must be shuffled out of the garage to go to the Storage Unit across town. Bigger and bigger and more and more is NOT a concept for happiness.

Go to a consumption tax!!!!
