My sister's boyfriend (and M&A guy) lived in SGP for many years when younger (He's end 30s now). He still has good connections there. He told me the loan, yes $250m, was to a rent-a-car company. But I was not pressing any further. It turned me off right away.

So you are really not far off at all :-) Do you or anybody want me to go ask him some more? Tell me!

Thomas

Not only that, but a taxi company that will only make about US$10m in REVENUE this year (actually about 80bn Rupiah - the company has no US$ revenue to match the loan).

+ Why did HSBC loan them US$100m?

SCMP - Don't blame me: taxi boss

scmp.com

<< His company, Steady Safe, is now worth less than US$3.9 million (HK$30.18 million) on the Jakarta stock exchange. But, in May, he signed a loan deal with Peregrine worth US$350 million. >>

I guess when I was in business, I just had the wrong banker.
