conference call headline - initial dilution seen =Cabletron -3-: Takeover Rumor Has Circulated Since Summer [Dow Jones News Service via DowVision 01/14] Similar rumors that Lucent was eyeing Cabletron have popped up on several occasions since late summer. In September, however, Cabletron Chairman Craig Benson said in a television interview that the company had no plans to be acquired, Lucent and Cabletron do have an existing relationship since Lucent has purchased networking equipment from Cabletron. However, a few industry analysts who follow Cabletron expressed doubt about the most recent rumor. They believe that Cabletron will be announcing a smaller acquisition of its own. There has also been longstanding market speculation that Lucent was interested in acquiring Ascend Communications Inc. (ASND), another networking equipment maker.
