Bill; Whatever the reason , just knowing it's there and that they can post an open at the previous close, when in fact it's gapped up or down. Chances are the specialist are busy thoes mornings and some data is not feed into the index untill after things get rolling. I have found issues during the day added up often do not produce the same answer as the Dow Index is giving at the time , but it is a small differance, generally less than .01% Jim
