I've got a "thing" about floors. I like to be able to soak them in industrial-strength cleaning agents, then wipe them clean. Smooth, nonporous surface. Too bad getting a drain discreetly installed is more trouble than it's worth. And it adds this "psych ward" decor to a home.
Now a soft floor with a slick surface - I'd LIKE taht.

Oh Holly! We had carpet in the kitchen of our first apartment in Dallas. Never again! One day when I came home from the grocery store, a bag slipped through my arms and an entire bottle of vegetable oil broke on the carpet. As if that weren't disgusting enough, a bottle of vinegar was in the bag and got smashed, too. I cried and blotted and blotted and cried. Dan came home and made some comment about just dragging the lettuce across the floor for dinner. I cried some more. (I was pregnant-what can I say?) For the six months we lived there, it smelled as if we were having vinaigrette dressing for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I don't even really like vinaigrette dressing.
