I don't buy that. What he does not address are the massive numbers of millennial's (largest voting group now), minorities and women (who favor dms over pubs by 47%) that are the new force and power of the Democratic party.

They are a force to be reckoned with and they will find their own new leaders when they win the house in 2018.

And it is time the old guard retired anyway, they have left the party in tatters.

There are so many new female stars. The pubs have nothing like it.

And the most important thing we dems have to sell is our humanity.

That is a good product when people are paying attention, and they are paying attention.

Nope. I can't say I agree.

You don't need "serious" national contenders. You only need a populist left-leaning speaker who makes a decent case for change. Obama was a nobody when he won his nomination. And Bloomberg is well ahead of him, if he really wants to run. Sanders proved that religion is not as important as other factors. And there are plenty of others.

The real problem is that the party is reluctant to see the sea change and adapt to it. What they need is someone halfway between Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez (both in age and political views). But if they are really unsure, then they should allow candidates to cater to local tastes and see what shakes loose. They have a year to do it.

Bringing Obama back into the spotlight isn't the worst political idea I have heard in my lifetime, but it certainly ranks somewhere in the top five worst ideas.
