You left out the most important part of my post. Unauthorized immigrants come here in part because there are jobs waiting for them that Americans won’t do, jobs that keep our economy humming.

It only makes sense to me to respect those who are willing to do work that needs to be done.

Absolute control of the southern border without immigration reform would be outrageously expensive, thuggish, and not supportable by a majority of Americans.

A cost effective way to slow unauthorized crossings to a trickle: increase legal immigration and asylum allotments to match our nation’s need for people to do work that Americans won’t do, and enact and enforce laws to absolutely prohibit hiring unauthorized immigrants. Penalties on companies that break these laws must be draconian and virtually automatic. If unauthorized immigrants can’t find work, most will stop coming, assuming many would be able to come legally with expanded quotas.
