Telstra, the biggest telecommunications carrier in Australia, and Teleglobe said they have launched the first high-speed Net link combining satellite and fiber cable facilities. They said the 45-mbps link between the United States and Australia is a less costly and more efficient way to carry traffic and maximize bandwidth. High-speed Net access links combining phone with cable also are becoming more common.
