First of all, I was talking about the Republican Organization and not their voters. And my point was that the GOP takes money from the super rich and openly advocates policies that further their interests. This consistency gives them strength. DNC, on the other hand, takes money from corporate interests and claims to advocate policies that benefit the common man. But at the end of the day, they are accountable to their financiers. This conflict of interest (or hypocrisy if you will) makes them less effective in their purported goals, Furthermore, just like the GOP, most of the party elite and their families and friends will take a big hit if the apple cart topples. So there is an inherent conflict of interest between DNC establishing truly good policies and their own self-interest. DNC party platforms are akin to the charity donations by the rich. They are nice and appreciated, but they are never of the kind that really lifts the society or threatens the position of the donors. Universal healthcare (which BTW Obama did not propose) is still a charity. Establishing true democracy by abolishing gerrymandering and providing true campaign finance reform and putting a stop to the revolving door between government jobs and corporate payoffs would be real change. And you never ever see the party advocate those things. And before anyone starts telling me that Obama is now talking about the evils of gerrymandering, that is only an issue now because it is affecting the jobs of the party elite. It has nothing to do with actually valuing the will of the people. Otherwise, when Dems actually had the power they would have done something about it. But of course, they didn't because at the time they saw it as securing their own cushy jobs.
