The "router technology embraced by Cabletron"??? Oh brother.
Remember when research was part of a journalist's job?

Rory,

It is obvious that the Wall Street Journal is missing something or is very misinformed according to a paragraph that was contained in your article.

<Cabletron rivals have profited by focusing on networking "switches," which can deliver data more efficiently than the "router" technology embraced by Cabletron. The Digital business boasts high-end switching gear but analysts have said Cabletron needs to make more moves.>

Someone should do their networking homework before they write something like that! Cabletron has embraced switching as the logical alternative to routing! Unfortunately, Cabletron was late in switch development and deployment, as well as, being late to embrace the use of reseller channels to get their product out onto the street and instead pushed their in-house direct sales which put them further behind the competition.

I think Don Reed is doing the right things, but I think the Wall Street 'experts' like that clown who wrote the WSJ article will be putting the negative spin on this acquisition in the short-term. The real experts are going to watch CS and look for concrete guidance from Reed looking into the next quarter. If he indicates a reasonable level of confidence with the DEC acquisition, new ATM product releases, further development with Nortel on the telephony enhancements on the MMAC-Plus, and a vision to move firmly into the booming remote access market this stock will move gradually back into the mid $20s in the short-term.

I just feel that tomorrow the hypesters are going to push Cabletron back down towards the 52-week low. Let's face it, if BAY can convince the analysts that they have turned their business around anybody can.

Cheers,

Steve
