The broad zone included several intervals with particularly high grades, including one that averaged 57.74 grams per tonne across a 4.8-metre true width. The two other holes produced gold, although with markedly lower grades over lesser intervals. The best of those hits was a 4.97-gram-per-tonne average across a 2.9-metre true width. Mr. Walford, president and chief executive officer, was naturally enthralled with the one long hit, which he deemed "very exciting." He says that the high-grade intercepts are consistently occurring in the main corridor of mineralization, with some of the veins extending into the footwall and hangingwall. Mr. Walford says that the company's goal is to discover new deposits, and to increase the measured and indicated resources within the known deposits ahead of a prefeasibility study. Valentine Lake received a preliminary economic assessment in May, based on 33.4 million tonnes measured and indicated at 1.99 grams of gold per tonne and another 17.27 million tonnes inferred at 1.99 grams per tonne, for a combined 3.2 million ounces of gold. The dream sheet contemplated a $380-million mine that would average nearly 190,000 ounces per year over the first 10 years, yielding a discounted net present value of $466-million after taxes. The Mississauga-based Mr. Walford, who has been with the company since 2009, received a salary of $250,000 last year, plus a cash bonus of $125,000. Mr. Faught, of Toronto, is chairman. He received $63,000 in fees last year.
