Political correctness goes beyond manners not just in terms of requirement (and even politeness shouldn't' be required in many cases where political correctness is), but because many things it calls for banning (which can be an endlessly shifting collection of things) aren't rude.

Also its often applied in ways that start at impolite and go on all the way up to violence. Its not just a more extreme or more required version of politeness its a distinctly different thing.

Manners, civility, politeness, decorum sure. But 63 genders as an example? Isn’t there some point on a sliding scale where we can agree that the former is relevant and appreciated but that the latter is just finger poking and disingenuous?
