Ron, Japan was also not that advanced... But my point was consumption not production..China by consuming and providing cheap efficient conditions to produce would bcome growth engine (already became growth engine) Time will come, however not anytime soon) than China will be murch more than that..

Do they need to be an industrial powerhouse?With over a billion people, if they just start heating homes with gas or making bikes for everyone("A new bike in every house!), they'll need lots more oil.Kook what japan did when they "got" industry...World War II.

Ron,

If I understand Dave's major point, it is that it is inevitable that China will move rather quickly toward industrialization, and that it will take a lot less time than Japan to get there. The aged infrastructure which must be modernized provides incredible potential demand for industrial metals and social change will provide comparable increased demand for precious metals.
