On the contrary it was a big hit with the Brits. At least the average Brit, the aristocracy maybe not so much. The working class (blue collar) Brit often had no better life than a well feed slave back then , most couldn’t read or write and often army or navy was the only option bar starving. In the US many Brit soldiers mutinied and joined the other side even on penalty of hanging if caught. I travel there a lot and most Brits love Americans and what the Country stands for. R.
