>>As far as "diminshing the quality of life for those that are taxed" ... well, in my experience, those are are truly wealthy, rarely sacrifice so
much that their life styles are impacted.>>>

The tax battle is not about rich or life-style it is about premise that "rich" would create jobs far better than government could increasing revenues (tax base) to help les fortunate by playing
Robin Hood GVN destroying more than building..
The reason that Europeans e.g. Germans are partially o'key with "compassionate" state (despite huge unemployment as a result) is they inherited a century-old culture that it is shameful to stay home and most, even if paid more to stay home, would look for work..
We do not have this culture in USA..thus carrot is not usefull

Mark-

I think our discussion here has a lot to do with the price of gold, as much as does the "price of tea in China" or the devaluation of the Yuan in China. For it is the policies of "socialistic" governments, in the guise of "investing" for the betterment of society that are at least partly responsible for the present crises. Budget deficits
from ever increasing public entitlements and the subsequent cycle of monetizing the public debt to pay for larger deficits, debasing the currency which further impoverishes society, would be impossible with a government with a gold back monetary system.
This may seem simplistic but the most basic laws of the universe apply if you are building a paper airplane or a rocket to mars. So the most basic laws of good government apply even in today's "new
era" where burgeoning technology puts more and more people out of work.

A governments proper place is in the defense of its citizens, its laws, and the store of wealth, the nations money supply. Govt. has never and will never be able to solve all the problems of its
citizenry. It only exacerbates the problems it attempts to solve and then creates more in its attempt.
