On cyber-security from Technology Review this morning;

Russian hackers could switch America’s lights off

US officials say cyber attackers penetrated the control rooms of some power companies.
The news: According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has revealed that a Russia-backed hacker group hit hundreds of targets last year. The group, dubbed Energetic Bear, even managed to get into some power companies’ networks that were “air-gapped”, or isolated from the internet.
The ruse: The hackers snuck in by targeting trusted suppliers to the utilities. Once inside their systems, they then found ways into the power firms’ networks. According to a DHS official, the cyber attackers “got to the point where they could have thrown switches.”
Why this matters: The US has been warning for some time that Russia is intent on compromising everything from its energy grids to the electoral process, and the DHS believes Energetic Bear is still on the hunt for more targets.

"Katelew accused me of being drunk when I did not agree with her. "

Don't worry about it; I'd accuse you of being drunk if you did.

"I just am puzzled by her flip."
Yeah. I recall her as being fairly close to Lane 4 or 5 years ago.

Hard to be much more personal or insulting than that.

I didn't take issue on the grounds of insult. I saw disregard. Insult accords more dignity than disregard.

I posted my comment to you only because yours was the last in a series. It was directed at the entire discussion.

Take her at her word. She is concerned over immigration. Trump checked several boxes for that. If she also has some isolationist tendencies, as many who are concerned over immigration do, then Obama could have been more appealing than McCain because Grandpa wanted to be Dubya plus with respect to foreign wars. Not that being opposed to invading random countries makes you an isolationist, but that would be a common characteristic with being opposed to many forms of immigration.

Add in a desire to see the neoliberalism that has dominated the developed world since Reagan to be overturned and that neatly explains a lot. Let's face it, neoliberalism and its cousin neoconservatism have failed most people in the developed world. And there is a lot of pushback right now. Not to mention the tossing of babies with the bathwater...
