That is going to be pretty hard to tease out. Remember, man is not a rational creature. He is a rationalizing one...

This applies to women, too, BTW.

Even overt racism can be a complicated creature. It is almost a stereotype that the same person who spouts pretty ugly racist things, typically starting with "all of those people..." and quickly follow it with "except for Joe Bob who lives on the bottoms. He is fine people". Actually knowing and working with individuals of another race does not necessarily lead to a blunting of racism.

And it isn't clear that opposition to immigration necessarily has its roots in racism. It often does, but that isn't necessarily the case. Admittedly, I do get frustrated with some people and openly wonder if their opposition is rooted in racism. But that is a pretty lazy conclusion.

However, it is perfectly possible that it is rooted in racism and they don't realize it. Because they have rationalized it as something else. I suspect this is the case for those who see the wall as the solution to the problem, while minimizing the fact that most simply fly in and overstay their visas.

katelew did claim to have helped an African man with a whole bunch of children come here and she has said that her daughter employs immigrants in NYC.

This prompted a thought: you may consider "moral licensing" in addition to your Fox News hypothesis. This could explain many Trump voters:
