I don't believe that industries that are not a natural monopoly (or fairly close to it) should be nationalized. BUT, I do believe that the government should be able to create businesses that compete with the industry on a level playing field. Those businesses should be accountable for their P&L (they could be in partnership with the private sector). Aside from being a source of revenue for the government, they will provide a floor for certain industries such as banking.
