Ok - my last post for a while, and I am making it because I value your opinions and contributions.

I don't deliberately make debate ploys. I voiced my genuine impression based on your numerous emphasis on winning the elections being your most important priority. So if I got you wrong, then my mistake. Nor was I taking any cheap shots at you. I suspected that line would rub you the wrong way, but I could not think of a shorter way to make my point that "winning" is not the only thing.

Now with regards to having an overall message...yes, uniting behind a presidential candidate who delivers the message is the easiest way to do it. But that is not the only way to do it. One of the things that has happened to GOP is that they have become focused. There are still differences between them from state to state and from one wing to the other, but the differences are far less pronounced than those of Dems.

My argument has been that Dems need to be more focused instead of being all over the map. The leadership has a job to do even when out of power. In order to achieve that, Dems need to coalesce to the left. Staying in the middle will get them ran over. And this shift to the left is the message that should be delivered. Right now, the Dems have too much of a tug of war between their left and right wings. Poll after poll shows that the left side is what the people want. But the leadership is still fighting the battles of the '80s and '90s and is scared of being labeled as socialists. This despite the fact that this path has been a losing proposition for a long time. So they need to wake up.

Anyway, I am going to be on sabbatical for a while.

later,
