Canada Is Back In Play With Gold And Weed

After a summer away from the Canadian markets, it looks like the trading opportunities are back in full force. A large gold discovery in Newfoundland has led a charge to the region, with many extremely small float stocks looking to benefit as area plays. We also think that weed stocks are about to go on another run, highlighted by an undervalued warrant play that we were successful with before. We are up to 622 followers despite not giving out a lot of alerts, a fact that we think is indicative of a diligent and prudent stock picking history. If you like our picks you can follow our blog by clicking the follow button on the top of the left hand panel. You can also follow us on Twitter @StockTradePicks. We have over 3,000 followers on Twitter as well.

Sokoman Iron Corp. (GDNDF) (SIC.V) has risen from $0.05 to $0.42 since announcing High-Grade Gold Intersections at its Moosehead Project in Newfoundland. As extreme as this move has been already, the company only has 61.7 million shares outstanding and sits at a $26 million market cap. It can go a lot higher, particularly after finding out who has decided to invest in the stock.

Shortly after this discovery, the company announced a $3 million financing, $2 million of which was taken by famous gold investor Eric Sprott. This has led to several companies quickly securing nearby land in hopes of similar types of assays upon drilling or even that the rising interest in the region may cause them to become buyout targets without ever lifting a drill. If Sprott promotes the SIC results, we think that there will be a very heightened interest in this region as a potentially untapped source of new mineralization and SIC along with these other stocks can continue their massive runs.

The company that seems to have done the best job at quickly securing nearby land is Pivit Exploration Inc (PIVT.CN). A recent IPO, the company has moved to stake land adjoining Sokoman's claims and close to the large discovery, as we see in this picture below.

PIVT closed up 29% to $0.155 on Friday, but only has 12.7 million shares outstanding and a $2 million market cap. If the entire area catches on fire, and it almost certainly will as long as SIC keeps increasing, PIVT is likely the best candidate to move up huge as an area play. But it's not the only one.

New Point Exploration Corp. (NPEZF) (NP.CN) staked land 500 meters east of the Moosehead claims. NP moved up 38% to $0.09 on nearly 8 million in volume on Friday. With 15.2 million shares outstanding, it has only a $1.4 million market cap. Though it has an open financing for 40 million shares at $0.125 cents, it just recently completed one for $1.67 million dollars at $0.25. So it is actually trading slightly below its cash value just from this previous financing closed a month ago.

Tasca Resources Ltd. (TAC.V) moved up 33% to $0.10 on 3.9 million volume on Friday. It acquired a Land Package Contiguous to the Moosehead on June 25th. With only 10.5 million shares outstanding, it has a market cap of just over $1 million.

All three of these companies made mention of the Sokoman discovery in their news releases, so it is very clear that they are trying to take advantage of that company's success and quickly stake land in hopes that the entire region turns lightning hot. If it does, we expect these minuscule float stocks to be extremely profitable to investors at these prices. As an example, a meager $5 million market cap leads to 150% to 400% increases for these stocks.

We also expect weed stocks to pick up again, and are particularly bullish on a leveraged warrant play. We traded Newstrike Warrants (HIP.WT) with great success in March. Since then, HIP has tanked to under $0.50 and a new set of warrants have started trading upon the latest financing. HIP.WT.A expire in June 2023, nearly 5 years from now, and have a strike price of $1.00. Canadianwarrants.com value HIP.WT.A at a price of $0.16 when HIP was trading at $0.41. HIP closed at $0.485 on Friday so HIP.WT.A's "fair market value" is likely around $0.18. HIP.WT.A closed at $0.105 on Friday, clearly showing the opportunity to pick up these warrants at a heavy bargain.
