and he doesn't need the office to enrich himself later He may not need to, but he certainly has been using his office to enrich himself and his older children. At pretty much every opportunity.

Wow, I never thought of that! Gosh, thanks, Kate! Genius, pure genius! That comment deserves ten asterisks! re: Why would he even want the hard work that goes with the office if he wasn't motivated by the desire to improve life for Americans? We're lucky to have a president who can govern so independently. He got into office without donor backing and he doesn't need the office to enrich himself later.
