>>Ah, the benefits of truly socialized medicine. I say that knowing that we may not be far behind.>>

That would mean one of the two

1. Entire Congress changed (no one get re-elected in next cycle after passage

2. Lot of unemployed lawyers moving to Canada in search for work in Gold Mines

The longevity rate in Canada is i believe higher than here. One must take into account how critical the problem both sides work at the same speed.

The basic difference is in some areas the technical equiment is not as advanced. You definetly arn't going to have a quadruple bypass at ninty three in Canada.

The bottom of line of HMO in my humble opinion can be far more difficult to deal with than the Canadian medical system.

Bill,

<<It's become almost a given from what I understand (Mark, feel free to
correct), that if you need surgery in Canada you get in line and wait and wait and.. then come to the US when you can't wait any more.>>

As I said in another post, that is a _very rare exception. I would concede that you do likely wait for some surgeries longer here, than in the US - but a shorter waiting time NOT necessarily imply superior care. One of the benefits of the system, is that because access is quite good, problems are discovered earlier than they otherwise would be, so one has them atteneded to before they are emergency situations. requiring more intervention and longer care periods.

I should also comment ... one of the biggest problems with our system, is the amount of fraud that occurs ..... from non-Canadian people obtaining fraudulent health cards, to access our medical system. Systems are being implemented that are curtailing that practice.
