working for 6 figures get's
one jack shit in any major city

growing up one could live nicely making $15k

I totally agree looking at how my father worked in the CITY as a waiter and one week's wages payed his mortgage, all insurance including health (little if any deductible), our private school education through college, and the cars in the driveway. One income also able to save a lot of money buy more RE and retire a millionaire without a high school diploma and was an immigrant coming here at 25 didn't know the language to boot.

What else caused this change from 40 years ago besides Reaganomics which first drove RE prices and rents skyward in the 1980's? If unsure I bet MM can fill in the blanks for you..
