The Jewish people were given a mighty and at times dreadful burden to carry so they could keep the Word of God alive and so they could bring forth the Messiah. History is replete with examples of Satan trying to crush and kill them to prevent them from fulfilling their mission, which mission was for the benefit of all mankind. Here is one example. It is found in the book of 2 Maccabees, Chapter 6. It is at the time of Antiochus, around 164 B.C. It shows what the Jews were up against and why the Gentiles needed a savior so badly: "Not long after this, the king (Antiochus) sent an Athenian senator to compel the Jews to forsake the laws of their ancestors and no longer to live by the laws of God; also to pollute the temple in Jerusalem and to call it the temple of Olympian Zeus, and to call the one in Gerizim the temple of Zeus-the-Friend-of-Strangers, as did the people who lived in that place. "Harsh and utterly grievous was the onslaught of evil. For the temple was filled with debauchery and reveling by the Gentiles, who dallied with prostitutes and had intercourse with women within the sacred precincts, and besides brought in things for sacrifice that were unfit. The alter was covered with abominable offerings that were forbidden by the laws. People could neither keep the sabbath, nor observe the festivals of their ancestors, nor so much as confess themselves to be Jews." There is much, much more to this historical time period. The Jews were mightily persecuted. However, with God's help they prevailed and retook Jerusalem and their homeland. They were not wiped out and, as a people, they held the banner of God high. They were persecuted before that and they have been persecuted since and even up to this very day. Why? Because God still has a plan for them and Satan wants to stop it - the same reason Satan has attacked the Jewish people throughout history. The Jews are clearly not satanic for they are attacked by Satan. Remember what Jesus said when he was accused of being Satanic? He said: Luke 11:17-18 17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: "Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebub." (NIV) Accusing the Jews of being satanic is like saying that Satan is divided against himself. No, the Jews are being attacked. Jews need our prayers, our love, our compassion in the name of Jesus Christ, most particularly the Jews, like Alan and Nancy, who profess faith in the Son of God. In Christ, Tom
