dave, i had a bad 1996 ;-) it is tough to get over, even after a great 97 (which was even better untill all my good stocks got trashed with all the bad stocks (guess which one leads the way ;-)

this sets the stage for some more big gainers in the future - potentially.

actually, the point of profitabilty is very important. i believe all the big boy producers (mu included) have about the same costs. they buy the same equipment at about the same time. they can hire the same talent.

now, this is my opinion. however, i know mu does not control pricing but it is interesting that dram drops at a pace that always allows mu to make a little money (at least so far).

is that b/c the companies that control price are selling very near their cost also and eeking out a small profit like mu? maybe, maybe not.

your contention that they are losing money while mu makes money indicates that the koreans will have to raise prices to at least breakeven and mu will roll out the profits.

now, is this david's opinion based upon mu management saying they believe they are the low cost producer (btw, did they say they know they were the low cost producer in and document filed with the sec? ;-)

i think it is. if you could cite sources then perhaps you might have a foiundation other than mu management.

as an aside, jim cramer was on cnbc today saying that the worst thing he did with the oil drillers was to get information directly from the companies themselves. why? they were unrealistically optimistic b/c it was in their self interest to do so.

mu management is no different, imho.

good luck. mu has made a nice move into the $30s. if dram prices can stabilize around $4.50 or so then mu may be able to earn $0.20 a q in the next couple qs. keep an eye on those prices.

oh, and btw, if you aren't going to discuss how well you did last year then i'd suggest you not make comments about how well others did - especially implying they did poorly.
