If a can of Spam is on sale at the supermarket, does the buyer need to know that costs have gone down? The buyer only cares that the selling price has come down.

The buyer of spam at the supermarket wants different things than the reader of an article about NAND vendors.

The other is the assumption that because smartphone sales are growing more slowly, or maybe not at all, therefore, overall demand for NAND flash is falling.

I've never seen an article make such an assumption. Can you please post a reference to such an article?

In the article I just posted, it says that they believe that that is a factor in what they say will be oversupply:

DRAMeXchange points out that the main reason behind the falling prices is oversupply at various levels. First, the annual shipments for smartphones this year are expected to be just on par with last year’s. The replacement demand for smartphones has been sluggish due to the lack of differentiation among products in terms of hardware specifications.

Points like this are frequently made by NAND bears.

You are so knowledgeable and accurate in predicting WDC prices that you can probably find this out yourself.
