You were lucky, some primary grade teachers tried to convert left-handed people in the past.

I've done some construction for myself and have a good friend that is left-handed.

We've worked very well as a team. Depending on the orientation, it was sometimes easier for one of us to hammer a nail than the other.

I was taught to write with the paged tilted like a right-handed person. I remember writing with my hand moving over the text resulting in smudges.
The correct way was to not bend at the wrist.

Cursive taught in schools
