London dry and discoloured as parks become scorched by endless summer

The long hot spell has been an early summer treat but it has left much of Britain parched.

As the first hosepipe ban threatens to completely dry out parks and gardens when it comes into force in the north-west of England, aerial photos show just how much damage has already been done by the enduring heatwave in the nation’s capital.

Despite London not being put under a ban, the photographs show recognisable open spaces including Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace yellowing in the sunshine.
