Writing skills are also poor among the young. Way back when, we got our first WordPerfect at the office. I wrote up a bunch of form letters and any other letter that went out had to be approved by me or my partner. I was amazed at how people got a 3.5+ GPA in collage and couldn't write a decent paragraph. But now I am retired and probably no one cares how bad the tweets, emails and text messages are.
