Hi Rick,

A quick story or two about Deere.

My lifelong best friend has a finish grading and erosion control business in Nebraska.

He's a self made business man - with a small crew of hard working people.

They have morphed into a multi-million revenue company as they have specialized in erosion control on new railroad track sections.

They find themselves going up and down very steep grades.

That kind of dangerous work requires heavy equipment - they have big trucks, excavators and exclusively ONLY John Deere 4x4 tractors and John Deere Trac Steer skid loaders.

To buy a Trc Steer skid loader form Deere - you must pay the asking price and then get on a waiting list.

Their production is sold out in advance.

A friend of his was told by his accountant that he should buy some equipment and get the depreciation into the past year.

Since it was a friend of his - he gave up his turn for a new skid steer to his buddy and deferred his taking delivery into this year.

Lastly a friend here in Wisconsin planted Soy Beans on my acreage here in Wisconsin. My land is hilly and has 6-12% grades.

Plowing that land results in a lot of soil erosion. It is a relatively new concept of "No till" planting of Soy Beans, Corn, and Alfalfa.

We did it this year for the first time. He told me that he could not have done my land 3 years ago as the tractor required to pull a no till seed drill and the slopes of the hills required a higher horse power tractor than he had.

The need for bigger tractors doing more efficient planting has put Deere in the premier position of making THE BEST AG TRACTORS IN WISCONSIN AT LEAST.

I think Deere is just a premier manufacturer.

I'd buy deere on any dip and call it a buy and hold forever.

Deere is a high quality well run company with superior products that just work better.

RE-ASV speculation Big earnings miss. it was ST painful, but not totally unexpected. Presumably CAT or Terex did not buy as many undercarriages hurting sales. A important point IMO to remember. This niche company has dealers in the North America, Australia, New Zealand markets. My latest acquisition Bemis was by an Aussie company. I believe these markets make it attractive for a Japanese company (hypothetically Kobota). Being ASV is a small company. Tariffs are very likely to have a impact on input costs, (STEEL). This IMO makes it even more susceptible to an acquisition. This by a bigger player with access to better input structure. MNTX & TEX looked to have washed there hands of ASV. My previous theory of a hypothetical (China based) Zoomlions seem out of the question for now. However I wouldn't rule out a domestic ALG, DE, or CAT. I'm holding for now.
