A practical point, but they could claim it is because they are downtrodden. I'd accept that argument if they were a) grateful, b) cooperative with their recovery.

I will support the position that (D)'s didn't serve them or many wage earners well. The numbers show a steady decline since Carter in the ability to live on the minimum wage. But - these are extreme times - and when it came time to fight Nazis - people had to buck up, toss off their animosity toward neighbors who couldn't be members of their church, and go fight for what was proper.

There was a lot of anti-Semitism in the country and people didn't like foreigners. They got over it and finally helped stop Hitler. We are in that time now, except domestically. They better pack up all their dislike of people of color and save their democracy from the Carpetbagger they put in office. Do the right thing.

Define government support. Then, and only then, can such comparisons be made. And there are likely some fairly big disagreements along the way.
