Tom: As a "non-technie" who, nevertheless holds a substantial stake in BAY, I would like to hear from either BAY employees or other well-informed "techies" what gaps in its product line, if any, BAY still has, or will have over the next twelve months, to allow it to state unequivocally that it offers end-to-end networking solutions. Cisco claims it is a one-stop source of networking. So does BAY (and BAY also claims to be able to adapt to other systems). Another way of asking this question, is what kind of acquisitions will BAY have to make over that time period to achieve this end.

It has been my assumption that BAY was already close to this goal. However, the two acquistions this year and a reference I saw recently to BAY's plans to make a substantial number of acquistions in 1998 (the figure 6 sticks in my mind). Has me wondering what the state of play really is.

I note that BAY has stated that it will make acquistions purely to improve its product range and buy technolgy, not to buy client lists or marketing channels.
