That is different. PLA is the main plastic used for 3d printers. There are some other biodegradable ones, but that one is number 1 with a bullet. But, it isn't all that biodegradable. Unless you have a composter than can reach fairly high temperatures, it isn't going to degrade very quickly.

Me, I went exclusively PLA early on. When heated, it had an odor sort of maple syrupy. These days, it doesn't even have that. ABS, which was the primary plastic used had a terrible odor at the time when heated. Think burning Legos...

Don't ask how I know what burning Legos smell like.
