Thanks, James. :)

I think we all want to protect our little corner of free speech here on SI. And in order to do that, it has to be profitable for them and their advertisers.

Elizabeth Warren says she knows Mollie Tibbetts murder is ‘hard’ for her family, but we should focus on ‘real problems’ illegal immigrants face

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren protested the treatment of illegal immigrants following the murder of Mollie Tibbetts during an interview with CNN on Wednesday.

“The person who allegedly murdered her [Tibbetts] is an undocumented immigrant. Mike Pence and the president have suggested the laws need to be stronger so people like this were not in the country,” CNN’s John Berman told Warren.

The Senator very quickly expressed her condolences to the Tibbetts family before pivoting to a more broad topic on how the United States treats illegal immigrants.

“Last month, I went down to the border, and I saw where children had been taken away from their mothers. I met with their mothers who had been lied to, who didn’t know where their children were, and there was no plan for how they would be reunified with their children,” Warren said.

“I think we need immigration laws that focus on people who pose a real threat, and I don’t think mamas and babies are the place we should be spending our resources. Separating a mama from a baby does not make this country safer,” Warren concluded.

Elizabeth Warren is currently up for re-election in Massachusetts and is tampering down expectations that she is gearing up for a 2020 presidential run.

Trump's Fake Allies in the Gulf
by Burak Bekdil
August 24, 2018 at 5:00 am

gatestoneinstitute.org

  • Ahmed Charai, in an article for The National Interest, has forcefully reminded the world that: "As Qatar faces international pressure to stop harboring senior [Muslim] Brotherhood figures, there are clear indications that it will facilitate their migration to Turkey. So among the urgent challenges for the U.S. allies to address is the question of how to weaken this budding alliance."
  • Charai has a point. There is a "more-mature-than-emerging" anti-U.S. alliance among U.S.'s presumed Middle East allies
  • What should matter to Washington in this Turkish soap opera is the fact that Turkey is getting support, in its confrontation with the U.S., from "like-minded" countries: Russia, China and Qatar. It is clearly time for Washington to rethink its theoretical but fake alliance with Qatar, a tiny Gulf sheikhdom that is trying to neutralize U.S. efforts to sanction Turkey -- another theoretical ally that is more like-minded with Russia than with the West.

In theory,
the oil-rich sheikhdom of Qatar is an ally of the United States. The peninsula hosts more than 10,000 U.S. military personnel and approximately 72 F-15 fighter jets at its Al Udeid military base. In this turbulent part of the world, alliances, like enmities, can be treacherous. In March, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives was already looking at four alternatives that could become the military headquarters when the Al Udeid contract with Qatar will expire in 2023. After "closely observing its [Qatar's] financial and banking system due to fears of support for terrorist organisations and individuals associated with them," Washington apparently decided it had to rethink Al Udeid and its Qatari "allies."

ELIZABETH WARREN EARNED ROYALTIES FROM NATURAL GAS PRODUCER WITH LONG RAP SHEET OF ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLATIONS, TAX RETURNS REVEAL

11:50 AM 08/24/2018
Andrew Kerr | Investigative Reporter

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren received royalty payments in 2017 from one of the largest natural gas producers in the nation, according to tax return documents her campaign released Wednesday.

Warren received $121 in royalty payments in 2017 from Chesapeake Operating, LLC, a subsidiary company of Chesapeake Energy, according to her tax return. Chesapeake is the second-largest natural gas producer in the nation behind Exxon Mobil and is the most active driller of new gas wells in the country.

Chesapeake has been hit with over $17 million in fines relating to environmental and leasing violations since 2007, the largest being a $3.2 million fine levied in 2013 after one of its subsidiary companies dumped unauthorized materials into dozens of streams and wetlands in West Virginia.

The natural gas royalties Warren collected in 2017 is negligible in comparison to her estimated net worth of between $3.7 and $10 million, however, the existence of the Democrat’s financial ties with Chesapeake is curious considering her aggressive stance against the energy industry. (RELATED: Elizabeth Warren’s Income Has Skyrocketed Since She Entered The Senate In 2013)

Warren called out major oil companies, including Exxon, Shell and BP for raking in billions in profits, during a 2015 speech before climate and labor activist where she stressed that government regulation of the energy industry was necessary to prevent companies from “dumping filth in the river or spewing poisons in the air.”

Notably absent from her speech was mention of Chesapeake, which operates nearly 23,000oil and natural gas wells across the country. The company signs lease agreements with landowners prior to opening a new drill site and pays royalties to leaseholders, like Warren, typically as a percentage of the revenue earned from the sale of the gas.

Warren’s financial ties to Chesapeake date back to before her entrance to the Senate in 2013, according to her tax returns.

She reported earning $204 in royalties from Chesapeake in 2012 and a combined $899 in royalties from “gas wells” from 2008 to 2011.

Warren is up for re-election in the Senate in November, but her campaign’s move to publish 10 years of her tax returns this week is being considered a precursor to a potential 2020 presidential bid, CNBC reported.

Warren did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
