Well, I have my theories, and they involve a sinister relationship between Linus Torvalds and Mr. HEXonX.

Pete, I'll take a shot.

1) From the capitalized letters - Hex on X(208?)

2) HEX in computerese means Hexadecimal (base 16, i.e. 10 = 16 not ten). So therefore something referring to base 16?

I've always thought of it as #1.
