Just heard an interesting point from my broker concerning IDTI, which is a semi. They just came out with earnings and was supposed to have a small loss, but actually had positive earnings. It was noted, whether it was by my broker or the company, that since they have production overseas the currencey valuation problem in Asia actually helped them, since their labor cost went down. I am not familiar with IDTI and if I am mis-stating the story please correct me.

Here's my question. If a company produces 50% of their products in Asia but sells 5-10% in Asia, and all the other financial factors remain the same - how would Asian Flu effect the company.

Something that I think everyone has heard and that is from every bad situation something good comes out of it. What are some of the good things coming from the Asian Flu:
1) since we are the largest importer in the world our imports from Asia will be cheaper, helping to keep down inflation
2) There should be buying opportunities for American corporations in the Asian manufacturing arena.
3) For those shifting production to Asia they should be able to reduce their cost.

I am the furthest from an economist but it strongly appears that there may be strong benefits for American Corporations. Whether those benefits can exceed the negatives due to the Asian Flu - well, does anyone really know.
