Tom, no disrepect was intended, and I apologise if my writing infered that. My main point was that on one hand, South Korea was being castigated for accepting easy credit which it turned out they couldn't repay and on the other hand the US was providing more easy credit to the same country providing they bought overpriced US farm produce. (I use the word overpriced advisedly - the landed cost of the farm products sourced from the US is evidently higher than those sourced from Australia or New Zealand which are much closer and have a far more favourable exchange rate). I have a high regard for the US and its citizens but I do sense some "double talk" from the mouths of its political establishment, but no worse than politions in many other countries..

Thomas,

<<I've read dozens of posts at SI from Canadians who wish to express their dislike for one thing or another about the US. I've come to accept it and expect it. >>

But have you made an effort to understand it?

Canadians are a funny bunch, take it from one. We are
so much like the USA it causes an identity crisis that
unfortunately is resolved for some by saying ; we're
different because we are more socialist, or we're better
because our army is smaller we don't have nukes,
our gun laws are stricter etc etc ad nauseum.
I have often wondered about it and drawn a couple
of conclusions;- we have an inferiority complex
-we have been told by many eastern intellectuals
that USA is a bad example to follow and that
we have it better for some reason or another
-American media-incredibly exportable-IS very
self centered, when exported to other
countries it creates a backlash.
P.S.- have seen a couple of anti-Canadian posts too on SI
