I see no reason to believe that Lucent will have any more success in getting into the LAN business than IBM, HP, Compaq, or DEC have been. The playing field established is crisco, BAY, 3com, cabletron, ascend, and the rest ... in that order. (Bay is ahead of 3com whether you like it or not so dont bother complaining)

Nothing will change that order other than an aquisition of one of the top 3 players (cabletron and ascend are just noise and dont matter) by one of the biggies ... I doubt they'd want to bite of such a big chunk (especially crisco).

on a different topic ... word on the street is that my friends at LackSenseLAN chose the wrong physical layer technology to pursue... ah shucks...time's running out guys.

oh also ... doesnt DEC have gigabit ethernet technology? Didnt CS just purchase that stuff from DEC? Maybe cabletron forgot to open the box to see what's inside before they bought YAGOO! (or is that Yago?) Hmm.. wonder what they'll tell there DEC customers?
