so that the wives of Corel management can pretend to be elegant and important.

Pretend to be elegant? It looked like a homage to world's oldest profession.

If the reference "they are going to eliminate all marketing, and production and development" is a response to my comment, I should point out that the positions I am referring to are 'marketing communications' not marketing. A friend works for the marketing department (graphic artist), and all his work goes through a 'marketing communications' person, not the product manager or the product marketing manager. Invariably, the situation gets fouled up requiring a 15 minute meeting between marketing, graphic artist, and product manager and NOT the marketing communications. You have to wonder why they are there - and there are 80+ of the 500? total employees on Carling Avenue.
As for production and development, look at the quality of PhotoPaint and Draw. Both competitive in their area, though I can't say if the market leader or not. Image editing is at least as challenging a programming problem as vector illustration - so why the hell is PhotoPaint using perhaps 20% of the resources Draw does?
Does it surprise you that Cowpland has boondoggle departments as well as ideas?
