Indeed. I was reading about that recently and someone said they had an old GE fridge in their garage that was 50 years old and still running like a top.

They just don't make 'em like they used to, and from a business perspective, it doesn't make sense for companies to do so. It's really planned obsolescence to force new purchases and increase profit, customer be damned.
