I'm an American Citizen and was born here. My nationality is the United States of America. My father was born in a Socialist/Communist Dictatorship and moved here and brought our family from that country to escape their predations. My father became a citizen and then met my mother and married. My father and the family he was able to bring over all came with nothing and did well, because this country welcomes foreigners who are willing to work hard and pay taxes. It is why I think Trump is too far right in his immigration policies. There is a middle ground between Trump's xenophobia and the left's Open Borders policies. We need policies that allow immigrants who share our values, don't have a criminal record, and who are willing to integrate to come here and have a fast path to a green card and citizenship. We need H1-B visas that are unlimited, not constrained. I'd staple an H1-B visa to every Masters and Doctoral degree of a foreigner that gets one in this country. I'd create a fast path for Latin Americans to come here and work legally. I'd create a frictionless trading block across not just Canada and Mexico, but all of the Americas and the Latin Americans would be our best friends, best trading partners, and best growth opportunity, if I were President. Xenophobe? Hardly. I'm just very practical and I have far more experience with foreigners than most people in this country. Experience matters versus the naive and arrogant book smart liberals that spend all their time virtue signaling, but in the end just come across as patronizing a-holes.
