Maybe it needs to be killed or at least cooled down. I live well within the standard deduction. Too bad you don't. Whose fault is that?

You realize that killing the mortgage interest deduction will kill the housing market???? Now that's opening pandora's box...

If done correctly this wouldn't harm a thing. Since a typical mortgage is 30 years eliminate the deduction over 30 years. Year one you get 29/30th of the deduction and it reduces slightly every year until gone. If you bought a house halfway through you would start at 15/30th of the deduction. So gradual who would ever notice? Of course Congress would never have the patience to leave it alone.
