The Standard Gauge Railroad is Chinese imperialism at its finest in Africa. But look elsewhere at China's Belt and Road boondoggle in Asia and the rail gauge in each section of the line is actually different. Of course you see China still running the same abusive fiefdoms inside other people's countries, but the end result will not even be an interoperable rail system - because Belt and Road is not really about transportation or trade. Even in Africa, where the gauge is standard, China's new serfs are beginning to understand this.
